Alyssa Lowery teaches Philosophy at Campus
Meet Alyssa Lowery

Dr. Alyssa Lowery is an Instructor in the Philosophy department at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Her teaching focuses on first and second year general and introductory philosophy courses, and her work in the classroom has won Vanderbilt’s Berry Early Teaching Award. Dr. Lowery’s research investigates the areas of Social Philosophy, Political Philosophy, and the Philosophy of Religion (that means she spends time thinking and writing about topics like ‘Must God Prevent Evil?’).

Dr. Lowery has taught since 2013. Though she initially had designs on spending her career in research, teaching offered a chance to introduce students to big questions (‘What’s the difference between a religion and a philosophy?’ ‘How do we know what we know and what we don’t know?’) and think through those questions with her students -- she was sold.
